Inexpensive Skincare Routine

Blog #85: As we get older it is important to have a skincare routine. An inexpensive skincare routine can be done. There are so many products ranging from low to high. It does not have to cost you a ton of money. I was never into a full face makeup but I was obsessed with eyeliners and eye shadows. It was quick, easy and fun! That was in the 2000s when that was the look. Now it’s all about wearing makeup that looks natural.

All Natural

Overtime, I just stopped wearing makeup all together. I stopped liking that specific style. Due to very dry eyes, I started wearing my glasses more often and using my contacts less. I could never pull off the makeup and eyeglasses look.

Egg Mask

I became obsessed with homemade facials. My all time favorite is the egg mask.

  1. Take an egg and separate the yolk and whites in a separate dish.
  2. Put the yolk all over your face and let it dry.
  3. Wash off with fresh, not warm, water. Pat dry.
  4. Now cover your face with the egg whites. Let dry and wash face. Pat dry.
  5. Take an ice cube and rub it all over your face. Pat dry. This helps with redness and puffiness.
  6. Moisturize.

It feels so good! I used to do it weekly. Now I do it less often. Its nice to refresh for a big event or just to pamper your face! It leave your face glowing, refreshed and tightens your skin!

Skin Care Steps

Just like make up, there are steps you need to take, to care for your face and remain youthful. I can say people think I am younger than I really am at 33 years old! It definitely pays off!

Remember your neck is part of your face. Signs of aging starts with your neck. The products you apply to your face, you should also apply to your neck!

In this order:
  1. Cleanser
  2. Face Toner
  3. Serum
  4. Eye Cream
  5. Moisturizer
  6. SPF

You can get a moisturizer that is combined with SPF for one less step. I was doing that until I ran out of the Aveeno Daily Face Moisturizer with SPF 30. And now I am using a moisturizer and separate SPF sunscreen. Therefore, I am now searching for a new moisturizer, SPF combo. The Aveeno moisturizer was okay. Make sure each product is covering your face and neck. Minus the eye cream of course!

One last step, is to exfoliate. I use the egg mask (above). Sometimes I use a scrub. It gives a nice massage due to the micro beads. These masks you can do once a week or twice a month.

Nighttime Routine

This is definitely a step I honestly have not taken yet. Why? Because there are so many products out there and I have not found the one I would like to use for my skin. Simple as that. I do make sure to wash my face and moisturize before bedtime, of course! I might start using coconut oil as my night cream. Celebrity, Adrienne Bailon uses coconut oil everyday all over. Her face is always glowing!

Alicia Keys Skin Care Routine

I have been checking out Alicia Keys skin care routine lately. She uses great products for her skin and she looks super young at 39 years old!

One of the products she uses is a Jade Roller. That is next on my list to purchase. It works best when cold. You can stick it in the freezer so it’s nice and cold when you roll it over your face. A jade roller helps with circulation and relaxes your muscles. It also boosts that glowing effect by getting rid of toxins. Think about it as a mini face massage. I can’t wait to purchase mine!

Products

I change products from time to time, in search for better products. Some I am listing, I am no longer using and am still in search for a better product for my skin. Some I did not see much of a difference. Again, every skin is different and every product works different on each skin. Find the product that works best for you. Allure, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire and Good Housekeeping Magazines are great articles to check out the newest products for your face. They also list their products by oily, acne and sensitive skin.

My Current Products

  1. Biore Deep Charcoal Cleanser
  2. Witch Hazel
  3. Vitamin C serum 22 by serumtologie Anti Aging Eye care
  4. L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Eye Treatment
  5. Johnson & Johnson Baby Lotion
  6. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 30

Finishing Touches

A few things I also like to do to keep my face glowing, is use a face trimmer about once a month or so to get rid of peach fuzz on my face. This gives me a cleaner look. I keep my eyebrows and top lip plucked, moisturize my lips, always! And lastly, I wear eye concealer for my raccoon eyes. This is genetic and it’s super hard to get rid of! I have tried many home remedies but these dark circles won’t go away! Thanks mom! I did inherit full, long eye lashes! Therefore, I don’t wear mascara.

Feel free to switch up products. The only thing I always keep the same is the toner. Your skin changes over time. There is no harm in trying new products.
