Kale Caesar Salad

Homemade vs Store Bought

On a weekly basis, I make about 5 salads a week, just for breakfast. To make my mornings quick, I purchase premade salads, such as this Kale Caesar Salad I am going to show you how to make! My husband loves salads. His favorites are Kale Caesar and the Asian Inspired. Whole Foods and Target have the best premade salads. We’ve tried salads from Market Basket and Trader Joe’s but I feel the quality in taste is not comparable to Whole Foods and Target salads.

When Whole Foods is out of the Kale Caesar salad kits or I run out of them at home, I love making them. It is super easy and actually cost efficient compared to a bag of salad for $4.99. I make mine a bit different and sometimes use my Homemade Caesar Dressing to make this salad.

Ingredients:

  • Kale
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • Cilantro
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Caesar Dressing
  • Pepper
  • Croutons, (optional)

You can make the salad however you’d like. The store bought one contains brussel sprouts, which is delicious. If I had some at home, I would have added it. However, the first time I made it with the ingredients listed above, it came out super yummy! Therefore, why change the recipe!

Main or Side

This salad can be served as a main salad with grilled chicken, fish or beef strips. On the other hand, you can serve it as a side with a sandwich, sub or soup. I do not add salt to this recipe, as the parmesan cheese and dressing are already plenty salty. Pepper is enough for seasoning.

Croutons

Caesar Salads are known to be served with croutons. However, I never purchase croutons. If I have leftover French or Italian loaf of bread, I then make croutons to go with my salad. Croutons are very crunchy but when made fresh have a crunchy on the outside feel and soft and fresh on the the inside. Which is why I prefer making my own!
