Easter Inspired Jewelry Jar (Storage)

I especially like to save the jam jars you get at a farm or by the cheese aisle. So cute! For some reason the jars are shaped beautifully! Easter is around the corner which gave me this easter inspired jewelry jar idea. Easter is a reminder of spring, pastel colors and farm animals.

Save Those Jars!

Save pasta jars, jam jars, peanut butter jars, basically any pretty jar. No need to buy mason jars. In addition to not having to buy new jars, it good to recycle! The peanut butter jars and coconut oil jars are perfect to store food, candy and even to serve smoothies. These glass jars are dishwasher safe, minus the lids.

Jewelry Jar

For this craft project, I used a jam jar I had saved. I really liked the shape and it was perfect to store everyday jewelry. I plan on making a few more, using different sizes to group together. Makes for a nice vanity look. It’s also a nice way to store your earrings, bracelets and necklaces in different storage containers. Easy access!

What You Need:

You may already have the supplies at home! Especially with children at home, there always little toys laying around you can use for this craft. I had purchased a pack of mini farm animal plastic toys at Michaels. The farm animals were used to make something similar but more playful. You can check out my post, Craft Gone Wrong.

Supplies:
  • jar with lid
  • matte spray
  • mini/small plastic toy
  • gold acrylic paint
  • shiny mod podge
  • paint brush
  • glue gun
How To Make a Jewelry Jar:

Separate the lid from the jar. Make sure the jar and lid are clean and dry. Take the small toy and use the glue gun to to glue onto the middle of the lid. Then start painting the lid and toy/figurine. The lid itself, took two coats of paint. The bunny I used was a darker color and so I used 3 coats for him to be fully covered. Set aside and spray paint the jar. I was debating about leaving the jar as is but decided on using the matte spray. I actually like the contrast from the shiny lid and matte jar. Lastly, once the gold paint is dry, add a layer of mod podge and let dry.

How To Get Rid Of The Sticky Film

The easiest way to get rid of the sticky film on glass jars is by spraying cooking oil or brush oil on the film. Let it soak for a few hours and then scrub with sponge using warm water and dish soap. It may take a few tries but it works! Some stick film is easier to remove than others.

  1. This is soo nice! I also have difficulties in throwing away jars, especially nice ones like this one.
Can I ask you how you made the opaque effect on the glass?
    Have a nice day! 🙂
