Mother’s Day is around the corner but again you have no idea what to do for your mother, sisters, aunts, cousins and friends. At the same time you want to have your own mother’s day with your husband to celebrate in your own way. What to do?
I personally pick the weekend before Mother’s day or the weekend after to celebrate with my mom. Some years I may invite my sisters to celebrate with us. Some years its just me and my mom (some years they want to do something one on one with our mom). Same thing with friends and relatives. Pick a day to celebrate. It doesn’t have to be on Mother’s Day! The day of Mother’s Day I like to spend home relaxing or whatever my husband has in mind.
Some great ideas on what to do that I have done in the past and new ideas I plan to do are:
- Manicure and pedicure
- Brunch at a restaurant or at home
- A fun restaurant like Hibachi
- Walk your local state park
- Spend the day looking at baby pictures with appetizers and a movie at home
These are just some ideas and not all require spending a ton of money. After all its about appreciating what you have with your mom. Not about the amount spent. With that being said depending on the outing, also depends on the gift! If you are spending a little more on the outing you can spend less on the gift. Vice versa. It becomes harder as well to shop for adults. For example, I feel my mom has everything! And as adults we can buy what we want. Therefore I like to go for thoughtful gifts or things they may need.
Some gift ideas for the mom:
- Bouquet of flowers
- Easy care green plant, like a peace lily
- Wallet, if you know for sure the style
- Manicure/pedicure gift certificate
- Favorite perfume
- Massage certificate
- Restaurant certificate
- Arts and craft supplies
- Yarn for the knitter
- Food delivery service like HelloFresh or Blue Apron
- Grocery store gift certificate
- Favorite store gift certificate
- Cook together
These are just some fun ideas to spend the day together and celebrate! Depending how nice it is, there is always something to do!
I hope every mom out there has a wonderful and relaxing Mother’s Day!
Easter comes around, meaning Spring is here. The pastel colors, the flowers and spring cleaning. I love it! When it comes to making easter baskets I try to buy things my kids need and will use. Of course I will still buy something they want. I also try not to go overboard with the goodies, as my children also get 2 additional baskets from family members.
A good tip is to save the easter baskets, grass and eggs for next year instead of buying new ones every year. I tend to get a few extra ones every year from the extra easter baskets the kids get from family members. I then reuse these baskets when also making baskets for their cousins. I also don’t give in and purchase easter related gifts. It honestly goes to waste.
I make 2 baskets for my boys and 2 baskets for the kids cousins. I purchased everything from Amazon and Target. Here is what goes in each basket.
9 year old son’s basket:
- head phones
- 2 basketball posters
- 2 Books
8 year old son’s basket:
- 1 basketball poster
- Swim Shorts
- Stickers and Activity sticker book
4 year old girl’s basket:
- Dress up activity kit
6 month old boy’s basket:
- 4 pack short sleeve bodysuit
- Jogger Pants
I don’t put as much chocolate and candy to the baskets as I do an Easter egg hunt for my boys the morning of. As you can see these are things they will enjoy and not just wants but things they will use!
I hope this gives you a few ideas on getting things that what go to waste in your easter baskets!
You find out your pregnant after taking 4 tests! Now what?! My oldest son will be 9 in a few weeks and my youngest is 8. Yes Irish twins! My husband and I decided to take a long break before having another baby. Three has been our number. It took us 6 months to get pregnant, which everyone says is not a long time. For me it was as I had my boys back to back. It has finally happened and we are super excited! I am technically starting all over again since it has been so long.
To all the first time moms or moms who haven’t had a baby in a few years, this blog is for you. You honestly forget all the little steps. I remember nausea and throwing up with my first two pregnancies but I had actually forgotten how awful it feels until I had it again for this pregnancy.
I used an app called Ovia to track my ovulation days, etc. So once I missed my period I had an idea how far along I was based on the date of my last period. If you keep track of the date of your last period you then calculate your due date and how far along you are. You can google, due date calculator to help you get an “exact” date. Once you find out your pregnant you want to call your ObGyn to schedule your first appointment. My likes to schedule the first visit at 8 weeks. I ended up changing Obgyn for this pregnancy as I want to deliver closer to my home.
At the first visit, you will get your first ultrasound to make sure there is a heartbeat and to see the measurement of the baby. This will give the doctor an exact due date. I was actually measuring a week ahead. I then had blood work done and had ALL my questions answered. My youngest son has special needs, therefore I had a ton of questions.
My second appointment was two weeks after that. Basically to follow up. At that appointment I then scheduled the First Screening Test ultrasound and blood work. This is the test where they test for down syndrome, trisomy 18 and trisomy 13. I then saw the obgyn 3 weeks later for my results and to follow up and check baby’s heartbeat.
I will be 16 weeks (4 months) this week. At my 18th week appointment I will have another ultrasound to reveal gender. My husband really wanted to have a girl as we already have two boys and so we took the Sneak Peak Test and the test said BOY! You can take it as early as 10 weeks. All it is a blood test. This test is 90% accurate but some people say if the test says boy you can sometimes get a false positive. It most likely is another boy but I will get confirmation on my ultrasound in a few weeks!
My nausea has passed for the most part. Certain smells like perfumes make me super nauseous! But at least I can now smell, cook and eat chicken! As with my first trimester I wore a mask to cook chicken for my husband and children. I could smell or eat it! It was awful! I just have to keep my belly full. If I get too hungry I get nauseas, just as a not pregnant person except I am hungry every 2 hrs! Luckily I crave fruits!
To keep track of your pregnancy by week check out the OVIA Pregnancy App and Baby Center. I have both and love them! This week my baby is the size of an apple or avocado!
I”ll keep you posted 🙂
It is always fun to make goodies for the kids during any holiday. February there is a lot of sweets in my household since it is Valentine’s day, my son and husband’s birthday! Then St. Patrick’s comes around and then easter and my older son’s birthday. Wow! Time is flying by!
For St. Patrick’s I like to make it a bit healthier and go with the fruit. I do add candy to this rainbow fruit platter but it is very minimal. The kids love the rainbow and eat all the fruit. It is so much fun!
It is self explanatory. But I do have an old video for it, if you’d like to check it out!
Enjoy and Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!
Valentine’s day is around the corner. Instead of going out and buy gifts and decorations why not make your own!
It is one day of the year. Why go nuts over it? Besides you should show love everyday to all your loved ones!
Do you have an iPhone box? I love the iPhone boxes. They are super sturdy and you can repurpose them. I have repurposed several of them and love them! Today’s craft is a 2 tiered “basket” using two iPhone boxes.
You will need:
- 2 Iphone boxes (tops only)
- Foam brush and thin paint brush
- Old jewelry, like necklaces or earrings
- Glue gun
First start by painting your boxes. I realized after that the bottom of the box doesn’t matter unless you plan on gifting it, of course! Any paint is fine but pink will require about 3 coats. My pink is pretty light. I used acrylic paint which dried pretty quickly. After each coat I let the box dry for about 10 minutes before starting the next coat. Once the boxes dried I used my glue gun to glue the boxes to make a “2 tired” look. I then took some old jewelry I no longer wear to decorate the box. If you don’t have unwanted jewelry go to the dollar store or look for jewelry on sale. You can really use anything you have on hand, like buttons! I used a necklace and earring set. The cheaper the quality the easier to take apart.
I took the necklace and earrings apart and used the glue gun to create a pattern. I did add some hearts on the side of the box as well.
That is it! I use it to put all my hair clips and hair elastics. This could also be used for jewelry, office supplies, such as stick notes, paper clips, etc. Anything you need storage for!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Love getting your nails done but hate spending time and money at the salon? Worst part of all gel nails and acrylic nails ruin your nails. Sometimes you just want to wear fake nails for an event, party or get together. I personally do not like using nail glue and prefer the adhesive nail tape. Easy removal!
I am going to give you my review on two press on nails I use: The imPress Nails and KISS gel fantasy nails.
Pros and Cons
imPress Nails Pros:
- Cost: $5.99
- 30 nails and includes 6 accent nails
- adhesive ready on the nail
- look like gel nails
- flexible nails
- lots of sizes
- last at least 7 days
KISS gel fantasy Nails:
- Cost: $7.99
- 24 nails
- adhesive to be attached to nail
- also comes with nail glue
- small nails – for smaller finger nails
- thin nails
- not flexible
- last about 5 days*
Now for the cons of the imPRESS nails – they do start to pop at the cuticle after a few days. By “popping” out from the cuticle your nails get caught when washing or styling your nail. The plus is that it is not noticeable to others. Other than that it is manageable and last 7 days! I have read some leave them on for 2 weeks but they start to get gross. I suggest removing them after 7 days. You don’t want germs!
The great thing about these nails is that the adhesive is already attached to the nail. You just need to size them to your fingers and then peel off the film on the nail and apply. I do file the nails to be a bit more square before applying on my nail. I don’t ever have to worry that my fake nails will fall off. They will start to get loose after a week. Use your nails to push in between your real nail and the fake nail and done! I have actually done this driving! As long as you don’t pull you will not peel your nails. It has only happened when I was in a rush and pulled them off quickly!
The cons for the KISS Fantasy Gel Nails is that the first day I put the nails on a nail fell off a few hours later. The adhesive comes in a package as you can choose to use the nail glue or adhesive tape. Again this review is on just using the adhesive tape* not the nail glue. I changed the adhesive tape on the thumb nail. The next day the other thumb nail came loose and I had to replace the adhesive again. On day 3 I felt another nail came loose and so I just removed the nail and added a new adhesive. I decided to try these nails over a long weekend in which I had no plans. I did not want to be out and about and have a nail go missing! Embarrissing! Overall the nails are very thin which look natural but sort of look like acrylic. The nail lays right into your natural nail without popping off. These were also a bit longer and very easy to remove. The adhesive on these are not as strong as the imPRESS nails but I was able to do dishes and clean, etc. without the nails falling off.
In conclusion, I do like both nails. I really like that the KISS Fantasy gel nails feel more natural since they are thinner and nails do not pop but I was a bit nervous that a nail would fall off so I carry the adhesives with me. The imPress nails are more reliable as you don’t have a problem with the nails falling off. For daily wear I would choose these and pick the KISS ones for an event. I would say try them both and let me know which one you prefer! They both have awesome colors, shapes and lengths.
Sometimes you want a snack that’ll fill you up and hold you over until your next meal. This recipe is perfect for on the go, after school snack or before/after a work out!
Super filling and the kids love them. They are gone so quick I have to make them all the time. A good thing about this recipe is that you can make a few batches and freeze them. I came up with this recipe thinking of firm bars but not so hard that my teeth will chip off. There are so many bars out there that taste good but you can barely take a bite as the bar is hard as a rock! They may be healthy but will send you to the dentist in no time. I made these “bars” into balls as you don’t need too many before getting full. Protein bars make you full quick and I find myself eating half and saving the other half for later. Another great thing about these protein granola bars is that you can make them as big or as small as you want them!
You will need:
- 1 cup of quick oats
- 1 cup of unsalted almond butter
- 8oz of pitted dates (a bag)
- 1/2 cup of almonds
- 10oz of mini semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup of honey
- In a blender blend the dates and a 1/2 cup of almonds until the dates and almonds are chopped up small
- Then heat up the almond butter and honey in a sauce pan until mixed
- In a large bowl, mix together the oats with the almond butter and honey mixture and the dates and almond blend.
- Once everything is mixed add a cup of the semi sweet chocolate chips and start rolling into balls. Any size you’d like!
5. The mix will look a bit dry but that is ok. Squish the mix into balls and pop them in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes.
6. While the granola bars are in the freezer firming up melt the rest of the chocolate chips.
7. Remove the balls from the freezer and dip into the melted chocolate. Then stick them in the fridge until the chocolate hardens. Since the balls are already cold the chocolate firms up within a few minutes.
The recipe is easy and delicious! I know I say that about all of my recipes! But I would not post them if I did not love them!
