4 Newborn Summer Accessories You Need

newborn accessories

Enjoying the outdoors with a newborn in the heat is difficult. You don’t want to overheat your baby. There are definitely things you can get to keep baby cool. Here are 4 newborn summer accessories you need.

My daughter was born at the end of May. How fun to enjoy the first few months of my newborn in the summer! There are some down sides, of course. The summer heat and humidity is not safe for your newborn. It is best to keep your newborn indoors if temperatures rise to or feel like 90 degrees. Honestly, at 80 degrees I am already extra cautious.

Safety

To keep your newborn safe, it is best to stay in the shade and always check the weather before planning to hang outdoors. There are some accessories that make hanging outdoors in the summer easier with a newborn and even your toddler!

Accessories for Outdoors

Portable Fan

A portable fan is a must. Massachusetts gets pretty humid and super hot during the summer. It is nice to bring along a portable fan when your out and about. It is perfect for a walk, the park, a picnic and even Disney! Florida is hot year round and of course when your at a park, walking around all day, it is a must! HERE is my list of must haves for Disney with a toddler.

Travel Size Pack and Play

When on the go or just hanging out in your backyard, you need some shade to keep baby cool. This is especially great to keep your newborn enclosed but still getting fresh air. I absolutely love the on the go – baby dome by Fisher Price. It is WAY smaller than a pack and play and less heavier. You can also cover the top. The sides are all netting, which protects baby from bugs and flies but also lets in fresh air.

Mosquito Net

A mosquito net is very convenient for those strollers that don’t have a cover shade. Luckily my stroller does. But on early morning walks or a woodsy backyard, this would be perfect to protect your little one, while in the stroller. You can also use it to cover the car seat and to put over a pack and play!

Sun Hat

A sun hat is great when your baby is not in a stroller or car seat. Your newborn’s skin is very delicate. Newborns can burn very easily. It is NOT recommended for babies to wear sunscreen under 6 months old. Therefore, it is important to keep them out of the sun as much as possible. Even long layers that are breathable are great for really sunny days.
