What Postpartum Necessities Do You Really Need to Buy?

There are a ton of postpartum kits out there for purchase. But in reality, first time moms fall for this. There is no need to actually buy postpartum kits. The hospital provides many items and you only need to buy a few things. What postpartum necessities do you really need to buy?

Postpartum Kits

Postpartum kits can range anywhere from $40-100! Ridiculous right! Half of the stuff you may already have at home. Usually kits also don’t have the best quality stuff, if you asked me. Gowns are usually on the list on these kits. You can find a cute gown for a good price and something you would actually want to wear!

Hospital Provides

Let’s start with what the hospital provides. I have delivered all 3 of my boys at different hospitals. And if I make it to the correct hospital this time, then this will be hospital #4! Funny how your baby has control of when she decides to arrive!

The hospital provides:

  • Peri bottle (bottle that squirts water)
  • disposable underwear
  • Socks
  • Maxi ice pads (way too long but I still wear them)
  • Hospital Gown
  • Stool softener

What you need to buy:

  • Stool softener to have at home
  • Tucks (witch hazel)
  • Cooling Spray (I like Earth’s Mama)
  • Regular pads (the hospital only recommends using the icy pads for a few days and they do give you a few extra to take home)

Breastfeeding Necessities

If you are breastfeeding check out these posts of what you need. However, the hospital provides nipple cream. You don’t really anything else at the hospital since your milk is pretty slow the first few days.
