How To Get Your 3 Year Old to Wash Hands

I never really had an issue with my 3 year old washing his hands. Not even when he was younger. Lately he is too busy to want to wash his hands. This is how to get your 3 year old to wash hands!

Toys!

When I potty trained my youngest son, he always insisted in bringing one of his Goo Jit Zu Spider-Man to the bathroom to clean. He loves the water so that’s never an issue. Except, lately he wants to do his own thing. And busy with playtime LOL.

Have a toy on the bathroom sink that your child can wash when he is washing his own hands. It makes it more fun.

Hand Soap

A bar of soap works great but hand soap is easier when your child refuses to wash his hands. Pump a little on his hands and his toy and wash up!

A Comb

Yup, I keep a comb on the sink to make bubbles. I put a little bit of hand soap on the comb and it creates cool bubbles. That definitely helps my little guy get interested in washing his hands.

Giving you a Hard Time

When he is giving me a hard time, hand soap works great. I pick him up, add a little soap and put his hands in the water. He calms down and washes his hands without hesitation!

There are times where he wants to continue to wash up. AKA play with the water. My trick is to turn off the faucet and then turn on just the cold side. Two seconds and I turn it off. “Oh no, the water is too cold! All done!” Works every time!

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Practice makes perfect. Be the example! He will want to wash his hands every time he sees you do it!
