School supply shopping gets easier and easier. The clothes part is what’s getting harder because the weather is so out of whack. Check out Do You Really Need All The School Supplies On The List?

School Supplies

The school list is already out. You no longer have to wait for a paper copy to be sent home. The supply list should be listed in the school website by grade. The great thing about technology is that students now use less paper. Meaning fewer notebooks to buy. The rest of the stuff is usually pens, pencils and binders, to name a few. I don’t always purchase everything in the list and HERE is why.

Clothes Shopping

Living in Massachusetts with our crazy weather is one thing. Add global warming to the mix, like everywhere in the world and the weather is a bit confusing. Most of September is pretty warm and then October comes and it gets pretty cold. I remember one Halloween where we were wearing coats and gloves to take the kids trick or treating. There have been some years it’s been very warm as well.

A Few Outfits

Is it just me or do kids seem to get their growth spurt in the summer? I get my boys a few outfits, each a sweater and a pair of sneakers for the fall. Add socks for those growing feet, as well. Many times it’s so warm out for the first few weeks of school that they wear shorts to school. I don’t bother buying new shorts since it’s a few weeks before fall is in the air.

When to Start Shopping

I like to start shopping by mid or end of July the sales start to come in and the stores start stocking up. I love school shopping. The smell of a new backpack and the smell of new shoes. Nostalgic of when I was a kid. It’s fun getting new stuff! But for some, who like to shop during the rush of things, there’s always time for last minute shopping! You can get your child an outfit or two and then rotate outfits. Don’t feel you need to buy a ton of clothes. Before you know it, the holidays will be here and they will get more clothes!

Online Shopping

Online shopping is super easy. Especially when you know your size in your favorite brands! Look for back to school deals online. A lot of times the deals are better online than in store. Shop online and order for pick up, if available!

Buy What’s Needed

Don’t go overboard with school shopping. Your child can go a few years with the same backpack. Quality is key! Especially as they get older. Shoes are usually the most important. Don’t forget socks and underwear. Those seem to be overlooked when shopping!
